Apple Censors Christian Organization

Last week, Apple removed an iPhone app promoting the Manhattan Declaration, a 4700-word document released a year ago which affirms the sanctity of human life, the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife, and the rights of conscience and religious liberty. According to its website, the Manhattan Declaration app was accepted by Apple and rated as a 4+, meaning it contained no objectionable material. Yet the app, which had been available on iTunes since mid-October, was quietly pulled by Apple following a petition by Manhattan Declaration opponents who argued the document limits women’s choices and promotes hate toward gays.

The petition, which originated on Change.org, called the app a “hate fest,” saying that the Manhattan Declaration pushes “hateful and divisive language.” Signers of the petition supported the message to Apple, “that supporting homophobia and efforts to restrict choice is bad business.”

The Manhattan Declaration has submitted a letter to protest the removal of the app, calling on Steve Jobs to reinstate it as a means of civil discourse. Apple’s censorship of the Manhattan Declaration reinforces the liberal agenda to shut down the opposition.  Apple chose to respond to the mere 7,000 who signed the petition while ignoring the over half a million who signed the Declaration.
