Secretary Clinton encourages Brazilians to legalize abortion

This past Wednesday in an interview with Brazil’s Globo Network in Sao Paulo, Secretary Hillary Clinton encouraged Brazilians to consider legalizing abortions. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, she has always been a pro-choice politician like many in her party. But it just sends shivers up my spine to read it in print.
Abortion is, after all, the killing of a baby. There are few who continue to dispute this. As technology has improved, ultrasounds now show the presence of the baby’s sac as early as 2 to 3 weeks after ovulation/fertilization. In other words, just when the pregnancy is detectable by a home pregnancy test, there is a movie to watch. In just another week or two, the baby with heart beating is clearly visible. Such images have made it abundantly clear that the mass inside the mother is living and growing and shaped like a baby. That mass is a person.
Here are some of Secretary Clinton’s comments, with mine added in parenthesis:
“President Obama and I believe in a woman’s right to choose (to kill her baby). And President Obama has reversed policies from the prior administration that prevented women from making an informed decision. And he has also reversed what’s called the gag rule with respect to information going from aid programs to women around the world. And he’s also invested greatly in family planning services so that all women have a chance to exercise their own rights (to kill their babies).”
“And so I know that in every country, this is a decision for the people of the country, but I think it is something that needs to be carefully thought about because of the great effect it has on the numbers of children that poor women have that they can’t educate, feed properly, care for, the great toll that illegal abortions take, and the denial of women being able to exercise such a fundamental personal right (to kill their babies).”
Since when is it our right to kill? In almost all cases, mothers who kill their children are charged with murder, unless of course their children are still nestled in their wombs. Then it is deemed their right – a right to choose, a right to kill.
Why do we, in most cases, consider it wrong to kill? Because our legal system stems from the laws set forth by God through Moses as recorded in the Bible.
Exodus 20:13 is very clear. “You shall not murder.” The Hebrew word for murder means to dash in pieces, to put to death, to slay. This is exactly what is done in the womb to innocent babies. They are dashed to pieces and sucked out as mere trash, an inconvenience, unwanted baggage.
In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t mince words. And I won’t apologize for my stringency or my simplicity. Rather, I rejoice in sharing the truth of God’s Word, knowing that it will accomplish God’s purposes and not return void (Is 55:11).
Psalm 19:7-9 says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.”
Not coincidentally, women who have abortions frequently experience depression. Heartbreak lingers for a lifetime for the woman who chooses to kill her baby. But God’s way revives the soul and rejoices the heart. His ways are right and righteous. His ways are higher than our ways (Is 55:9). I pray Brazil will choose the higher way.
