On October 21 this year, fire trucks filled the small parking lot at our local hospital. Their extension ladders reached high into the air while firemen climbed to the top.
Wait! It wasn’t an emergency after all! They started to decorate the huge evergreen on the corner lawn!
Tomorrow we flip our calendars to December, and the Christmas season begins. Or is it already worn out where you live?
I hope you won’t let early days like Christmas tree decorating in October diminish your love of the holiday. Just think: tomorrow we can start at the chocolate in our Advent calendar, admire banks of poinsettias in the grocery store, and legitimately sing carols in our halls!
Mostly we can ready our hearts for Baby Jesus all over again.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. (Luke 2:4-6, NIV)
