Rahab’s red thread hung out the window while the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho. It pointed to salvation/ safety by blood. Those marchers looked forward to the collapsing walls of Jericho.
Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them. (Joshua 2:17-19, NIV)
Of course we now understand the scarlet thread as a symbol for the blood of Christ.
For the scarlet blood of Christ to save us, we must be under its covering. Are you?
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings. (Hebrews 10:19, 22, NIV)
Prayer: Father God, may every flash of red from cardinal to red-headed folks be a reminder that you sent Christ to save us from our sins. Thanks You! In Christ. Amen.
