One good thing about being quarantined is that no one was able to voluntold me into anything. When we get back to normal, it all might start up again.
You know how it goes. We need someone to run the ——–fill in your own blanks. And because we aren’t quick enough to say no, they presume your silence is their yes.
Of course, we need to help others and be willing to serve but I am convinced that help should be within our gifting.
I tried all kinds of voluntold and failed at most of them until I learned to stick within the perimeters of my spiritual gifts.
Do you know yours? You can find partial lists at each of these locations, Romans 12:6–8, 1 Corinthians 12:8–10 and 1 Peter 4:11.
Like me you may have to try out a few things to find out what God gave you but when you find out, walk in them.
Do I occasionally do other gifts? Yes, I do occasionally, in a pinch, help out in the Sunday School or stack library books. But mostly I stay in the areas of teaching, leadership and exhortation because that is what God gave me. So, voluntold or not, choose the path God gave you and follow his leading to your strengths in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. (From 1 Corinthians 12:1-6, NIV)
Prayer- Lord help us to move in the gifts you gave us to honour and glorify you. In Christ. Amen.
