Right after Anna and Simeon encountered the Christ, Luke jumps the story to Jesus age 12. We don’t know much about Christ’s early years, just the small snippet that Luke presents here.
When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. (Luke 2:39-40, NLT)
What does that really tell us? Jesus’ earthly parents lived a righteous life, as they knew it. They got to live in their hometown, where fingers may have been pointed at the born-out-of-wedlock child. Jesus was not the wimpy Christ so often portrayed by artists through the years. He was both healthy and strong. He was wise and God’s favour rested on him.
There is lots more in the Book of Luke. Read it for yourself and discover the Christ who died for your sins.
Prayer – Father God, open our eyes that we might see Jesus. Amen
