Isaiah 58:12– Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall rise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in (NRSV).
After many years in the kitchen, some of my best talents concern food repair! You might even call me a food mechanic. I know how to fix a dish that is overcooked, stale, lumpy, salty, bland, wilted or curdled. Some people would find it easier to throw these things out. I find it a challenge to correct what seems unfixable.
Just like food, some of the folks around us have been overlooked by life’s circumstances and set aside by the world to grow stale, wilted or curdled. Some have become too salty or too bland. They look like hopeless cases when actually they are simply waiting in God’s repair shop for His mechanics to take action.
In Isaiah 58:6-7- God calls us to help the hungry, homeless, naked and not to hide ourselves from our own kin. Where can we serve you today, oh God, the Great Repairer, by being your hands to the needy?
Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to the less fortunate and help our actions speak Jesus into their lives. Thanks for the opportunity to be your repairers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
