We have lots of Bible versions to pick from don’t we? Here is a rule to help you be wise in the choice. I must declare first that I have used all of these and refer to many of them every time a write a devotional here.
Word for word Bibles include the King James Version, which is quite beautiful, but written in an older language with lots of thee’s and thou’s. The New King James and The New American Standard Version are also true to the word.
The New International version is a thought for thought version while The Message is a paraphrase of the original language.
Each one of them is useful in its own way. Some are more dependable for the true interpretation of the original language.
The main thing to remember is that we need to be reading one version or another but hopefully studying in an original.
The Bible has only been translated once, from the original to English. Other versions took their substance from that.
The point is that God got written what he wanted to be written. You can trust his word.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)
Prayer- Father, thank you for affirming what we already know. You are faithful and unchanging. Amen.
