Mark Driscoll, James MacDonald raise funds for Haiti churches
Two of the country’s most well-known evangelical pastors have created a group to help churches rebuild in the wake of disasters.
Mark Driscoll of Seattle’s Mars Hill Church and James MacDonald of Chicago’s Harvest Bible Chapel created Churches Helping Churches after the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. The two pastors visited the country after the quake and have raised about $1.5 million to help rebuild churches, pointing to them as centers for aid, comfort and community resources.
“Whenever we hear of an earthquake, tsunami, war or other devastation, governments and non-governmental organizations quickly mobilize to rebuild transportation systems, hospitals, schools and homes - all important work,” MacDonald said. “But we found ourselves asking, ‘Who will restore the churches so they can care for the needs of the suffering?’”
