“Oh, I wish . . . ”
Have you ever said those words? Oh, I wish I could play the piano. I wish I could sing like her. I just wish I had a better marriage. I wish I had a closer walk with God. I wish, I wish, I wish.
In her book, Made to Crave, Lysa TerKeurst talks about wishing. As she was taking a shortcut through her neighborhood, she came across man planting a flower garden. Her first thought was, “I wish I had a pretty garden.” Lysa goes on to say that she came to realize the fact that the man had a beautiful flower garden because he invested time and energy to make it. He didn't just wish it into being.
That really hit home with me. How many times have I said those words, “I wish”? Too many to count. But have I ever been willing to do the work to make that wish happen? It takes time and commitment to have a great marriage, be able to play the piano, have a beautiful flower garden and have a close walk with God. Wishing isn't going to make it happen. We must be willing to do the necessary work.
I don't know about you, but I don't just want to wish for things to change. I want to have the determination to make it happen. We can't just wish to draw closer to God. God is faithful; when we seek Him, He will be found. But we must take the action of seeking.
So, are you ready to stop wishing and start working?
