“I venture to say that the greatest earthly blessing that God can give to any of us is health, with the exception of sickness. Sickness has frequently been of more use to the saints of God than health has.” Charles Spurgeon
Oh, don’t we love to thank God for our health? And don’t we plead for it when we don’t have it? Spurgeon, however, thought that the greater blessing was in our sickness. I’ve certainly found that to be true.
Every illness brought me closer to Christ because I had nowhere else to go. The doctors offered treatments, but they couldn’t eradicate my confusion, dismay, or the fear which occasionally morphed itself into downright terror.
So, I suggest to you that in your pain and suffering, turn to God. He will fix the things the medical establishment cannot address. Let’s honor him as we go through our sickness.
This sickness ……is to honor God and to promote His glory that the Son of God may be glorified through it. (John 11:4b)
Let’s thank God for the comfort he offers in the midst of our own discomfort.
