Say yes to every thing you haven’t eaten all year, including eggnog, gravy and desserts. Remember that raw vegetables are only for reindeer. Take long lingering naps after huge meals. Do not move because that will wear off pounds and you want to suffer in January, right? Fill your buffet plate twice as high as everyone else. Go back for seconds or thirds. (That is also the rule for pie; three slices minimum per person, every day.)
What does that get you? Nothing but troubles, self –denial and anguish come the New Year. Is that really your goal?
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. (2 Peter 5-6, NIV)
Prayer – Lord, please help us not to make the same mistakes as we did last year. Amen
